Every woman, at one time or another is "blessed" with the opportunity to bleed without dying. To experience her bodies' natural part of the cycle of life, it's way of releasing the tissue it prepared to recieve and grow new life. If, for any reason, you consider your menstruation a curse, instead of a natural, beautiful part of your life cycle your might want to read the articles "The Art of Bleeding" or "The Art of JuiceyLiving" for some new possibilities. The rest of this Gallery was created to celebrate and honor this time of a woman's life. This is the very first piece of art I ever did with my menstrual blood. Using an eyedropper I finished 6 pieces. Later going back with my black pen and sitting with them to see what it was they wanted to say...all the pieces in this gallery were done this way. I have used hands, brushes, folding, resists, and later beginning to use more color, paints, inks, metallic and gel pens, etc.

As it is on the art piece: "I was never taught how beautiful and powerful a woman's menses blood it. It is such an amazing experience to create with one's own blood, life blood, when I came from a place of secretive shame over what was beautiful and natural. To put my hands in to and feel the power of creation at my fingertips has given me a kind of new acceptance and knowing of myself as a woman, as a creator, as a goddess. I think my blood is beautiful & rich & clean. The days when I bleed are very vulnerable and open and psychic and creative. I have been looking for the gift in this cycle time for me. I am gentle with myself and I give my creativity an outlette now- and they both flow!" Saleena Ki'

"I have been happily gathering my menstrual blood for my second experience of "painting"- creating with it. I found myself looking forward to my flow and anticipating bleeding. This is a delightful new experience for me, when I have considered this "time of the month" to be a curse. A 'bout with hormonal insanity, a wrestle with the pain, a bother in my workaholic schedule, etc... So for me, I have come a long, long journey to be able to relax, be in the moment, in joy, in creative expression. So here's to the FLOW!"   Saleena Ki'

Oh women, remember
Our blood flows in peaceful, natural cycles!
Our blood is not shed
In violence, revenge, or anger!
No Sacrifice, wound or injury
Causes our womb blood to flow!

I, of course, by now, had broken all societal and religious  set boundaries, all my own taboos and crossed my own fearful thresholds...so I went ahead and created the "mixed juices" piece, using semen where it seemed most natural.

If there is a river more beautiful than this,
   Bright as the blood red edge of the moon...
If there is a river more faithful than this,
   Returning each month to the same delta...
If there is a river braver than this,
   Coming and coming in a surge of passion and pain...
If there is a river more ancient than this,
   Daughter of Eve, mother of Cain and Abel...
If there is in the universe such a river,
If there is somewhere, water more powerful than this wild water,
   Pray that it flows also through animals,
   Beautiful and faithful and ancient and female and brave.
